First West Coast Wax Up gets 2024 0ff to a great start
Pondy fast tracking down the line in Open Open Men Logger
The first West Coast Wax
Up was held in beautiful summer sunshine 4-5 ft powerful Possos walls
on Sat 3rd Feb. The event was very different from our usual comps
for a start it had just 4 divisions: one for Open
Men Logger, one for Open Women Logger, a Longboard Teams session and the last heat for teh day was a fun Old Log Expression Session with about twenty longboarders, in the water all at the same time, on pre "68 longboards.
In that last heat the idea was 60's style longboarding so as to impress a group of selected longboarding aficionados including the famous longboard surfboard maker George Rice, with Bob Smith, the well known Surf Coast surf historian
and memorabilia collector, and Murf, the old mal expert rider,
alongside Chooka, Bill Kelly, as well as Rita Lantinen,
currently doing a PhD on surf culture and water people expressions. Overall winners
in all divisions were only announced at the presentation of awards
later that night held at the Bells Beach Brewery, with cash and various sponsor prizes going to:
